Things to do close by: Best kayaking on Cape Cod, swimming in Wellfleet's pristine kettle ponds, Wellfleet's magnificent ocean beaches, clamming, Wellfleet's world famous oysters, the village of Wellfleet - groceries, ice cream, Hatch's organic produce, fresh fish, blueberry pancakes for breakfast at the Lighthouse, art galleries, restaurants, a farmer's market, deep water fishing in Wellfleet Harbor with the Naviator - they have the rods & reels & they'll clean the fish for you, fish off the pier. Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail in Wellfleet & there's trails in Provincetown. Wellfleet drive-in, Wellfleet movie theatre, go to a show at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre (Best of Boston - Boston Magazine), see paintings of renowned artists in Wellfleet's thriving art galleries, square dancing at the Pier, go to Provincetown, seaside golfing down the road at Chequessett Yacht & Country Club. Dine al fresco at Town Pizza. Grill on the Main house deck overlooking the water. Our favorite restaurants are Winslow's and the Wicked Oyster - they serve locally grown produce and of course, fresh local seafood.

Go out for lobster, all the restaurants are child friendly. Or call Mac's and order lobsters, they'll cook'em for you free, pick them up, and dine on the Main House deck overlooking the water. There's the Wellfleet flea market, National Seashore nature center, the Marconi site where Marconi invented wireless, visit the Highland Light Lighthouse in Truro, Audubon Society Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary - what a great place! Whale watches, beautiful sunsets, scenic drives, learn to surf, go birding, or don't go anywhere - just sit back with a cold beverage and listen to the waves.

From the Main House it's about 23 steps from the beach. Kayak, swim, or walk to Great Island at low tide, explore the National Seashore, try to make it to Jeremy point (lotion up), collect sea shells, watch the oystermen tend their oysters, relax, let the kids have fun exploring, collecting, discovering sea creatures. At night, stream Netflix, read a book, (we have a decent collection), begin writing your book, listen to the waves, the salty sea air is wonderful, sleep will be restful.

Easy Kayaking to the National Seashore

Ocean beach - Henry David Thoreau called the sandy stretch along Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown "The Great Beach." Enjoy a 40-mile uninterrupted stretch of beach, the largest on the East Coast. The Seashore also includes hiking and biking trails, marshes, fresh- and salt-water ponds, forests, historic structures, and lighthouses. In all, the federally protected land includes more than 43,000 acres. The ocean beach is about 3 miles from Main.

Marconi Station Site - Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi set up shop on the high cliffs overlooking what is now Marconi Beach in Wellfleet in the early 1900s to work on his project of sending wireless transmissions across the Atlantic. While repairs were being made to the Wellfleet station, Marconi sent a transmission across the seas from a station in Nova Scotia. In 1903, Marconi sent historic messages back and forth from the U.S. President and the King of England from Wellfleet. Today, a model of the station sits at the original site.

Great Island A Wellfleet treasure. Great Island was a center of mariner activity in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, a walking trail winds around between sand dunes, salt marshes and the sea. Strong swimmers: Swim to Great Island at high tide! Weak swimmers: Walk there at low tide. Non-swimmers: Drive to Great Island parking lot and walk the Great Island trails. It's pristine and secluded - part of the protected Cape Cod National Seashore. You can kayak to Great Island in about 20 minutes from the Main House.

5 kayaks are included with the rental.

These 2 are Sit-on-Top kayaks.

You can do it!

(If Grandma can - you can)

Wellfleet - Authentic character and charm about 75 miles out into the Atlantic ocean. About half of Wellfleet is preserved as part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. There's a unique nautical history, a quaint central village, and a plentiful supply of fresh fish and shellfish, including the world famous Wellfleet Oyster. The public beaches - ocean, bay, and pond - are beautiful, swimmable, and not as crowded as other parts of Cape Cod.
